Dearest Parents of DeRenne Fifth Grade Students,
Welcome to the 2015 – 2016 SCPS school year. I pray God’s highest blessings upon it. I am married and have two children who are SCPS graduates. I graduated with a BA from Tift Baptist Women’s College and from Georgia College with a Masters in Middle Grades Education. I’ve taught for over thirty-five years (17 of those here at SCPS) and enjoy it very much. I felt the Lord call me into the teaching profession, and because of this He has given me a special talent and ability to work with children and to make learning fun and interesting. The classroom is my ministry. I believe children are made of spirit and miracles, and I would like to cultivate (improve, prepare, nurture, foster a love of learning, form, refine, educate) them along their academic journey. It is my responsibility to guide students where to look but not what to see. I do take a Christian, biblical worldview.
Creative kids are curious. I’m ready to enter their world, learn their love language, listen to their thoughts and questions, and become explorers, detectives, and adventurers together with them.
I’ll be teaching your child reading, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, writing, study skills, math, science, and truths from God’s word.
Mrs. Allen will teach your child social studies three days a week. Her e-mail account is [email protected].
Our school program will also include P.E., art, media, Spanish, computer lab, keyboarding skills, music, recess, and enriching field trip opportunities.
If your child should need extra help with a subject I am usually available before and after school. Just have your student check with me. It should be their responsibility to set that up.
Test schedules for the entire week will be written on the board each Monday.
Papers will be sent home at the end of each week for you to review and sign.
Grading scale: 100 – 90 = A 72 – 70 = D
89 – 80 = B 69 or below = F
79 – 73 = C
