Educated at the Tift Baptist Women's College in Forsyth, GA, I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in history and Secondary Education with minors in art and psychology. I furthered my education at Middle Georgia College in Milledgeville, GA earning a Master of Arts degree in the middle grades area. I have a few hours toward a doctorate degree. I have taught for about thirty-six years. I was a 2012 nominee for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) in the area of science. I was a presenter at the Georgia Independent Schools Association (GISA) in Atlanta in 2012.
I have been married to Jim Ivey for thirty-four years. We have two blessings: Elizabeth (married to Michael Zeigler - also an SCPS graduate) and Taylor, both graduates of SCPS and now a grand daughter - Nora Elizabeth.
My heart's desire for these young people:
Philippians 4:8 “…whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
My Personal Testimony
I was one of those people who almost missed heaven by 15 inches. That’s about the distance from my head to my heart. And it’s the difference between believing about Jesus Christ and believing in Jesus Christ. You see, I thought I had to know all about (facts) Jesus before He would come into my life. I’m reminded of Acts 16:31, “Believe on (faith) the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved”.
Growing up my mother was a Christian, but my father was not. I was a good girl. I obeyed my parents. I went to Sunday school and church. I was searching for something missing within me. I didn’t know it at the time but I was searching for Jesus Christ.
When I was 15 there was another church visiting me and praying for my salvation every week. On one of those visits I lied to the group and said that I had asked Jesus into my heart not to worry about me anymore. I lost my voice after that huge lie. The very next day (Sunday), at the end of the sermon I invited Jesus into my heart and life.
I strive to be a godly person. I serve the Lord through my classroom, and in my church by working with the deaf ministry, prayer ministry, special needs children, VBS, and teaching three, four, and five year olds in Mission Friends.
I felt God calling me to be a teacher in the ninth grade. The classroom is my ministry. I feel it is my calling to help prepare this generation to take their place as godly influences in society.
